Northern Sydney Wellbeing Officers Norm Pounder and Ken Vessey, recently caught up with Colin Booby at a hospital in Turramurra where he was undergoing rehabilitation after yet another operation. It was obvious that Colin had endured a lot since December 2017, when he was injured at work which crushed his C4 through to his C7 in his neck. He has not been able to return to work.
Since that time, he has undergone many medical procedures including three operations in Newcastle plus numerous injections to improve his injuries but so far there has been limited success. In January 2019 he underwent further surgery and was placed in an induced coma for three days. Since our visit Colin has been transferred to his home (near Maitland) and will undergo further rehabilitation there before returning to Sydney for the next operation.
Colin and his wife Ash have four young children aged 16 months to 10 years old and there is no doubt Colin will be much happier being at home with them.
Colin was born in Tamworth and lived there for many years prior to moving to Maitland seven years ago. Colin has always been a keen rugby league man, playing for the North Tamworth Rugby League Club and then the West Maitland Red Dogs and is a keen supporter of the South Sydney Rabbitohs, with the Newcastle Knights a close second.
